Open on Business Recorder## Record Surge in Investor Accounts
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) reported that the number of investor accounts on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) jumped to 583,052 at the end of FY2025‑26, up 48% from the previous year’s 392,775. Approximately 190,300 new accounts were opened, the highest annual increase on record.
## Youth Leading the Upswing
Young investors are the main contributors to this growth. Individuals aged 18‑30 opened 45% of the new accounts between January and June 2026, while those aged 31‑45 accounted for another 41%. This reflects rising financial literacy and a shift from cash‑holding to formal market participation.
## Market Performance
The equity market delivered a stellar year, with the benchmark KSE‑100 index gaining 44% in rupee terms and 46% in US‑dollar terms. Analysts attribute part of this performance to the influx of new, digitally‑savvy investors.
## Drivers of the Trend
Banking and financial sector expert Ibrahim Amin highlighted the role of social media, digital marketing, and mobile brokerage applications in attracting younger investors. He also noted regulatory facilitation and easier market access as key enablers.
## Outlook for Local and Global Investments
The growing freelance and digital workforce, estimated at nearly three million, presents further upside for both local equities and global assets. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen pointed out that Pakistani investors are increasingly seeking platforms that provide access to international stocks, cryptocurrencies, ETFs, commodities, and forex in a single account, indicating a broader appetite for diversified, high‑return assets.
## Policy Environment
Pakistani authorities are working to improve the investment climate for domestic and foreign participants, encouraging more global companies to set up operations in the country. As competition among platforms intensifies, investors are likely to gravitate toward solutions offering convenience, accessibility, and a wide range of asset classes.
