## Rupee Extends Winning Streak

The Pakistani rupee closed at 277.36 against the US dollar on Wednesday, extending its rally for a 236th straight session. The one‑paisa gain continues a trend that began on 25 December 2025, when the rupee first started appreciating consistently.

## Performance Against Other Currencies

While the rupee firmed against the dollar, it slipped against several other major currencies: it lost 28 paisas versus the British pound, 21 paisas versus the Australian dollar, 36 paisas versus the euro, and 24 paisas versus the Canadian dollar. The currency remained largely unchanged against the UAE dirham and the Saudi riyal.

## Market Data Snapshot

- USD/PKR: 277.4131 – 277.3646 (close 277.36) - EUR/PKR: 322.3817 – 322.5196 - GBP/PKR: 375.5341 – 375.5517 - AUD/PKR: 199.7652 – 200.2157 - CAD/PKR: 200.9876 – 201.2733 - AED/PKR: 75.5287 – 75.5134 - SAR/PKR: 73.8783 – 73.8635

## Implications for the Economy

A stronger rupee reduces the cost of imported goods and raw materials, easing inflationary pressures and improving corporate earnings for import‑dependent sectors. It also signals confidence in Pakistan’s monetary policy and foreign exchange reserves, which can attract further investment.

## Outlook

Analysts expect the rupee to maintain its upward trajectory provided external financing remains stable and domestic fiscal discipline continues. Any reversal in global risk sentiment or a sharp drop in remittances could, however, halt the rally.
