Pakistan is set to commence trial exports of locally assembled vehicles to Bangladesh in September 2026. A memorandum of understanding signed in July between a Pakistani automaker and a Bangladeshi business group outlines an initial shipment of 100 vehicles, with a target of 5,000 units for full‑scale commercial export by next year.
## Models and Export Format
The two models slated for export are produced in Pakistan in partnership with SAIC Motor of China. Previously these models entered Bangladesh as completely built‑up (CBU) units from China. Under the new arrangement, the vehicles will be shipped in completely knocked‑down (CKD) form, allowing the Bangladeshi distributor to benefit from lower import duties while Pakistan gains a foothold in automotive exports.
## Technical Support and Knowledge Transfer
MG Pakistan’s CEO, Jiang Qiang Shao, said the company will provide assembly, quality‑control and engineering assistance. A local engineering team will travel to Bangladesh to guide the partner on general assembly procedures and ensure standards are met.
## Outlook for Pakistani Automotive Exports
Shao highlighted Pakistan’s cost advantage and skilled labour as drivers for expanding automotive exports beyond the initial shipment. The agreement could also open avenues for exporting related technology and engineering services, positioning the brand as a pioneer in sustainable automotive export from Pakistan.
