Dr Raja Ali Raza Anwar, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), delivered the country’s national statement to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors. He reiterated that nuclear safety and security are the sole responsibility of the Member State and must remain central to the Agency’s agenda.

Anwar emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering dedication to maintaining international standards for nuclear and radiation safety and nuclear security, describing the nation’s five‑decade record of safe operation as evidence of a robust domestic regime. He praised the IAEA’s role in advancing global safety through capacity‑building programmes and noted Pakistan’s participation in the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS).
## Leadership in Global Nuclear Safety
Pakistan recently chaired the 10th Review Meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety in April 2026. Anwar expressed confidence that the meeting’s recommendations will further strengthen worldwide nuclear safety practices.
## Ongoing Cooperation with the IAEA
The chairman highlighted several collaborative initiatives, including Pakistani experts’ involvement in an IAEA‑coordinated emergency exercise in the Philippines and an International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) mission to China in 2026.

Pakistan’s National Institute of Safety and Security (NISAS), an IAEA Collaborating Centre, continues to host regional training activities.
