## Workshop concludes a two‑year curriculum reform effort

The National Institute of Banking & Finance‑Pakistan (NIBAF‑P), under the State Bank of Pakistan’s guidance, wrapped up the Inter‑Provincial Curriculum Workshop (IPCW) in Karachi. The event brought together curriculum experts from all provinces, the Federal/National Curriculum Council, and development partners to finalise the integration of financial literacy into Pakistan’s school system.

## Financial Literacy Integration Project (FLIP)

FLIP was launched after the Prime Minister’s directive at the May 2024 National Conference on Education Emergency. Over the past two years, the project coordinated national, provincial and regional curriculum authorities to design a structured, curriculum‑based approach to financial education.

## Key outcomes

During the two‑day workshop, participants consolidated approximately 180 unified Financial Literacy Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). These outcomes will be submitted to the respective curriculum authorities for formal notification and inclusion in both national and provincial textbooks.

## High‑level participation

The closing ceremony, titled “Shaping Pakistan’s Future through Integrating Financial Literacy in Curriculum”, featured: - Nadeem Mahbub, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (Chief Guest) - Lubna Farooq Malik, CEO, NIBAF‑Pakistan - Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director, National Curriculum Council Wing, MoFE&PT - Representatives from provincial curriculum boards, education institutions, development partners and the differently‑abled community.

## Perspectives on the initiative

- Salman Shehzad, Project Director, FLIP, highlighted the shift from ad‑hoc financial‑literacy programmes to a sustainable, curriculum‑anchored model. - Mahboob Mahmood, CEO of Knowledge Platform, linked financial capability with critical thinking, digital skills and entrepreneurship. - Nadeem Mahbub stressed that financial literacy supports broader national priorities such as financial inclusion, responsible citizenship and economic resilience.

## Commitment to inclusivity

The workshop incorporated sign‑language interpretation and ensured representation of the differently‑abled, underscoring a commitment to inclusive education.

## Outlook

With the learning outcomes now drafted, the next steps involve formal approval by curriculum authorities and rollout across schools. The initiative aims to equip future generations with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions, potentially strengthening the country’s financial ecosystem over the long term.
