Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a special fuel‑relief scheme to cushion users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi and small cars against the surge in petrol prices caused by heightened tensions in the Middle East.
## How the subsidy works
- Eligible two‑ and three‑wheelers receive a Rs100‑per‑litre discount on a maximum of 20 litres each month, translating into a potential saving of Rs2,000. - Vehicles with engines up to 800 cc (including small cars such as Suzuki Mehran, Alto and Bolan) qualify for the same Rs100‑per‑litre discount on up to 30 litres per month, amounting to a possible Rs3,000 saving.
## Registration process
Applicants must provide a valid CNIC, a SIM registered in their name and vehicle registration details verified through the provincial Excise Department. The vehicle registration date must be entered in DDMMYYYY format. Upon successful registration, a confirmation SMS is sent.
## Using the subsidy at the pump
Before refuelling, users send the keyword TOK to 9771 to receive a fuel‑relief token. The token is shown at the petrol station, where the Rs100‑per‑litre discount is applied against the monthly quota.
## Roll‑out schedule
The scheme starts in Islamabad at midnight between 14 and 15 September and expands nationwide, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit‑Baltistan, by midnight between 16 and 17 September. Registration opened on Sunday, with further details to be communicated through an awareness campaign.
